The new Dr. Agostinho Neto International Airport in Luanda will begin passenger flight operations starting October 13, 2024. This project, announced during the "Doing Business Angola 2024" conference in Lisbon, represents a significant shift for air traffic in Angola, offering modern infrastructure and improved access. These are crucial developments for the economic growth and internationalization of business in the region.

The Importance of the New Luanda International Airport

With a traffic volume expected to be five times greater than the current 4 de Fevereiro Airport, the new airport is located 40 km southeast of Luanda, in the municipality of Icolo e Bengo. This new airport is essential for companies wishing to expand their operations in Southern Africa, providing a modern platform for passenger and cargo transportation.

Modern Infrastructure and Improved Access

The airport will feature 27 taxiways, a length of almost 29 km, and 13 remote aircraft parking platforms. The project also includes significant improvements to Deolinda Rodrigues and Fidel Castro avenues, as well as the construction of a direct railway line between the new airport station and Bungo station, facilitating access and reducing potential logistical constraints.

Economic Benefits and Job Opportunities

During the airport's construction, two thousand jobs were created. In the operational phase, 1200 direct jobs and 260 specialized technical positions will be maintained. This infrastructure will not only improve air traffic but will also significantly contribute to the region's economic development, attracting investments and boosting the local economy.
