Hello!
The five most desired skills in the corporate world. In two previous texts, we started talking about this topic, originating from recent research conducted by Michael Page. We saw that there is a synergy, a complementarity between these skills: teamwork, emotional intelligence/emotion control, resilience/stress resistance, communication skills, and, finally, proactivity.
We know that each of us has one or more of these potentially stronger skills in our behavioral profile. And we know that, just as we can develop new skills, we can also improve those we identify (either through constructive feedback or performance evaluation) that need to be developed. The burning question is: how to develop or improve such skills?
I firmly believe in the human capacity to always be better, day by day. Such an attitude dignifies us as thinking and communicating beings and sets us apart from others when we do it with and through conviction. In this way, we can consider some possibilities, attitudes, and actions to develop or enhance our skills.
Shall we?
1st Good listening – listening to criticism is never easy, truly. But, believe me, it is equally difficult to give it! So, when your leadership points out an attitude that resulted in something inappropriate, listen carefully. Try to break down the pride barriers and be open to what is being said, without preconceived notions or ready-made responses. Listen! Your listening and reflection on what is being said will certainly make sense.
2nd Read! The habit of reading, in addition to fostering richer, more reflective, and elaborate thinking, will contribute to developing your skill of fluid and clear communication. You will become more confident and assertive, boosting your self-confidence and security to suggest improvements or defend an action plan.
3rd Observe your environment. Seek to be and socialize with people you admire and who make you feel good, whether by the way they speak, the values you share, or because that person has a skill you recognize in yourself as needing development. It's among the good that we become better!
4th Reflect, always! The act of reflecting on a given situation allows us to see possibilities that, at the moment we were facing the fact, we couldn't have a better action. And, constantly, there's that feeling of "I should have said that!", "I should have done it this way!". The past is an excellent teacher! Reflecting is assessing with caution and moderation. Without forgetting that there should be no self-reproach. Just a pause for reflection and re-signification!
And last but not least, know yourself! As adaptable human beings, we need small daily adjustments and repositioning. So, the tip is: do therapy! It's safe, meaningful, and will provide you with much more self-knowledge than you imagine.
Let's do this!
A fraternal hug,
