Have you thought about doing business in Africa? This is a good time to internationalize your company in Mozambique.

Due to growth in various sectors that drive the country's economy, this would be an excellent opportunity for internationalization in a country with already identified consumption patterns and potential business opportunities.

Digitalization, globalization, and capitalizing on consumer tastes can mean huge success for companies.

The government has defined energy, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure as pillars of development. Therefore, we have highlighted 4 sectors that are growing and reveal good business opportunities in Mozambique.

Agribusiness

Agribusiness involves operations of production and distribution of agricultural supplies, production on agricultural units, storage, processing, and distribution of agricultural products and goods produced from them.

Mozambique has abundant water resources, arable land, and favorable climatic conditions, but these are not fully utilized to leverage agricultural activity and promote agribusiness.

Your company can take advantage of the abundance of water resources to drive agricultural activities and grow your business in the agribusiness sector.

Energy

Most of the energy currently generated comes from hydroelectric projects. However, coal, gas, and renewable energy sources will have a significant impact in the future, with statistical data indicating that natural gas will provide 44% of the total energy generated in the next decade.

The internal demand for energy in Mozambique is steadily increasing and is expected to continue to rise as the country industrializes.

It is expected that member countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will have a higher demand for energy that could be met with Mozambican exports.

There is significant potential in the field of new and renewable energies, such as solar, wind, hydro, and biomass, which Mozambique can take advantage of, also allowing access to populations where the national distribution network does not reach.

Public works and civil construction

Investments in infrastructure in sectors such as water supply and sanitation, education, and health are needed, not just for the Maputo region.

The growth of urban centers such as Tete, Nacala, Pemba, and Palma offers opportunities for housing and temporary accommodations (hotels) which these centers lack.

Manufacturing industry

The metalworking sector is needed to contribute to coal and gas exploration projects and the development of the energy sector.

Mozambique also exports raw materials without any processing (woods, tropical fruits, crustaceans, among others), creating an opportunity for the installation of small and medium-sized units (e.g., furniture production, agro-processing, etc.) that can be destined for both the domestic market and international markets like the USA and the EU, where Mozambican origin products have easy access through preferential agreements.
